Race For Canon Hamilton To Get Underway With High Noon Derby Showdown

One of the standout ties in the opening round of this years Clare senior hurling championship sees Sixmilebridge and Newmarket square off in a derby showdown.

The Blues come into the game off the back of a positive Clare Cup campaign that saw them promoted from Division 1B, before losing out to Saturday’s opponents in the quarter-finals.

2021 saw Tomas Ryan’s side narrowly fail in their bid to reach the showpiece event, as they were beaten by just a single point against eventual winners Ballyea at the semi-final stage.

Meanwhile O’Callaghan’s Mills will be hoping for an improvement on their showing in 2021, which saw the East Clare side involved in the relegation battle.

That came just 12 months after they had reached the county final, in what was manager Donach O’Donnell’s first year in charge.

Ballyea provide the opposition in Saturday’s opener, and O’Donnell says it doesn’t get much tougher than facing the holders on the first day out
