Quarter-Final Spots Secured In Clare Club Football Championships

The first two spots in the quarter finals of this years Clare SFC have now been filled.

Champions Eire Og served further notice of their intention to hold on to Jack Daly, with a clinical 1-13 to 0-8 win over Miltown.

Gavin Cooney netted the goal for the winners while the Clare FM/Patrick Bourke Menswear Man of the Match Philip Talty scored 0-6 from play.

The other Group Two game was a share of the spoils as a late fisted point from Fiachra Kirby ensured a final score of Clondegad 2-9 Doonbeg 1-12.

Clondegad raided for first half goals through Kirby and Eoghan Gavin to lead at the break, but Cathal Killeen found the net for the Magpies to help them lead inside the final quarter

Podge McMahon came off the bench to land two crucial points before Kirby notched the leveller deep in injury time.

Kilmurry Ibrickane are also through after goals from Daniel Walsh (2) and Josh Moloney helped them beat Corofin by 3-11 to 0-7.

Elsewhere in Group One, St Breckans bounced back to winning ways as they beat Doora Barefield by 1-15 to 0-8. Shane Fitzpatrick scored 1-2 for the winners while Jamie Stack accounted for 0-6 (3f).

Group Three is on a knife edge heading to the final round with all four teams level on two points each.

Lissycasey moved themselves back into contention in the opening game of the weekend as they beat 2022 finalists Ennistymon by 0-13 to 0-7.

Kildysart notched their first senior championship win as they upset the odds to beat Cratloe by 2-14 to 1-14

First half goals from Keith Murphy and a Rory McMahon penalty saw last years intermediate champions lead by 2-7 to 0-5 at the break.

Cratloe started the second half strongly and reduced the margin to three after Rian Considine’s goal, but Kildysart responded to land the next four scores to wrestle back what would prove to be winning momentum.

The final round of games in Group Two see Lissycasey face Kildysart & Cratloe taking on Ennistymon, with all four sides in contention for either a quarter-final, or relegation battle.

In the intermediate championship, Cooraclare beat Kilfenora, Wolfe Tones overcame Shannon Gaels, Naomh Eoin beat Kilkee, Kilrush beat the Banner, Kilmihil win against O’Curry’s and Liscannor got the better of Ennistymon.
