Outgoing Mayor Disappointed Over Lack Of Progress On Broadford Sewerage Scheme

The outgoing Mayor of Clare has expressed disappointment over the ongoing delay in progressing the Broadford Sewerage Scheme.

Councillor Tony O’Brien’s term as Cathaoirleach will formally come to an end this Friday, when he will be succeeded in the role by Fine Gael’s Joe Cooney.

He’s says Clare County Council’s award as Local Authority Of The Year, as well as the Council’s takeover of the Shannon Heritage sites are among the highlights of his tenure.

However, he says the removal of the Limerick Northern Distributor Road from the Limerick Shannon Metropolitan Transport Plan is one of the challenges yet to be overcome, while work is ongoing on a Special Development Zone on the UL campus.

The Killaloe Fianna Fáil Councillor says he’s received Government assurances within the last fortnight that an announcement is forthcoming on the Broadford Sewerage Scheme, but he believes progress has been too slow.
