Five Hospitalised Following Miltown Malbay Road Collision

Five people have been taken to hospital following a road crash near in West Clare on Sunday evening.

The two-car collision occurred at around 6.30pm on the N67 Spanish Point road out of Miltown Malbay, about 500m from the town’s square.

Units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Ennistymon station responded to the scene along with National Ambulance Service paramedics and Gardaí.

Five people were transported by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick for treatment following the incident, where it’s understood one of the passengers of one of the cars, a teenage boy, remains in a serious condition.

The others in the car suffered minor injuries while the driver of the second vehicle escaped serious injury.

The road remained closed overnight to facilitate a Garda forensic examination of the scene this Monday morning and local diversions remain in place in the area.

Meanwhile, on the outskirts of Ennis, another collision involving a car and a motorcycle occurred shortly after 7.00pm. The incident happened on the main N68 Ennis to Kilrush at Kilmorane near the turn-off for Ballyea.

Units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Ennis station responded to that incident along with Gardaí and a number of ambulances.

The motorcyclist was taken to hospital with what’s understood to be a lower limb fracture while his pillion passenger was assessed at the scene before also being transported to hospital for further treatment.

It’s understood that occupants of the car were uninjured.

The N68 was closed for a time so that Gardaí could undertaken a technical examination of the scene.

Gardaí are investigating the circumstances of the both collisions.
