North Clare Students Rep Fears Lifting Of Eviction Ban Will Worsen Eviction Crisis

A North Clare students’ representative fears that the accommodation crisis for those attending third level institutions will worsen off the back of the lifting of the eviction ban.

Students sleeping in cars, sheds and couches in order to go to college are among 20 complaints issued to the Education and Housing Ministers about the shortage of student accommodation.

It’s reported that one student said they were spending 5 hours commuting in traffic while another was staying in a shed.

The Government won a Dáil vote this evening which opposed Sinn Féin’s motion to extend the eviction ban, which saw 82 TDs voting with the coalition and 68 TDs voting against.

Speaking ahead of this afternoon’s vote, President of the TUS Student’s Union, Tubber native, Niall Naughton says it would be disheartening if the eviction ban is lifted as planned.
