Newmarket Celtic have fallen at the final hurdle as they vied to become the first Clare team to reach the final of the biggest competition in Irish Junior Soccer.

Liam Murphy’s side were up against Pike Rovers in Limerick this afternoon in their last four-tie.

Colin Daly scored for Pike Rovers in the fifteenth minute to give the Limerick side a 1-0 lead at half time. They extended their lead at the beginning of the second half with a second goal.

Ten minutes later, Newmarket’s Stephen Kelly gave Newmarket their first goal from a header, followed by a late equaliser in the form of a second header from Kelly.

It took extra time to seperate the time, but a goal early in that period put Pike Rovers ahead and their goalkeeper, Gary Neville validated his Man of the Match performance by resisting Newmarket’s efforts to equalise again.

It finished up Pike Rovers 3-2 Newmarket Celtic.
