Munster Champions Trophy Final: Newmarket Celtic 2-2 Villa FC (AET): Newmarket won 4-2 on penalties.

Shane Cusack was the penalty shootout hero as two saves and a scored penalty of his own helped Newmarket Celtic make more history and capture more silverware.

It was as dramatic as you could get with two goals in injury time to force the added period.

There was time for one more late twist as Darragh Leahy was fouled in the box as he was about to shoot.

Harvey Cullinan stood over the penalty, but while his shot was saved, Gearoid O’Brien responded quickest to slam home the rebound and send the game to extra-time.

It was Villa FC who took the lead by the break. but Cullinan cancelled it out with a penalty early in the second.

No goals materialised in the added period, with penalties needed to decide the outcome.

Cusack saved Villa’s opener while Eoin Hayes and Daragh Leahy finished their spot kicks.

Cusack also kept out Villa’s third before calmly slotting home from the spot himself.

Harvey Cullinan was Newmarket’s fourth and final taker, with his penalty proving to be the winner, as the club captured their fifth trophy in the last 12 months.
