The Mayor of Ennis is hopeful that a ‘big name’ retailer will anchor the proposed Abbey Street Carpark Redevelopment Project.

The project is the first to be undertaken by Ennis 2040 DAC and will see the parking lot replaced by a large retail and office development.

Ennis 2040 DAC hopes to lodge the plans by the middle of this year and says the redevelopment will create 100 new permanent jobs when complete and generate a footfall of 20,000 people in the town centre.

Ennis Fianna Fáil Councillor, Clare Colleran Molloy, says a popular retailer may put an end to people leaving the county town to shop in either Limerick or Galway.
