The 2021 Convention of Clare GAA takes place this evening.

Clubs of the county will vote to select the executive to guide the association for 2022, with a number of key contests to be decided.

Much of the discussion ahead of this evening’s meetings centers around four contests for spots at the top table.

The chairman’s position will see the incumbent Jack Chaplin challenged by current vice chair Kieran Keating, both of whom have served just one year in their respective roles.

The vice chair vote is a three way contest with Eire Og’s Paddy Smith, current PRO Michael O’Connor and Coiste na nÓg Iomant chairman Neil O’Brien in the running.

There could also be a change in the treasurers portfolio, with Kilmurry Ibrickane’s Rebecca Sexton taking on current postholder Michael Gallagher, while Niamh Madigan is the challenger for Tony Brohan’s post as assistant treasurer.

All other officers are expected to be returned unopposed while it is expected that clubs will be asked to nominate a new PRO in the coming weeks.

This year’s accounts will show a surplus of over €225,000, while just seven motions are set to be discussed by delegates.
