An MEP for this region believes “obstacles” must be removed to enable Clare people to access the vacant property refurbishment grant.

344 applications have been made in this county for the scheme which offers financial assistance to those carrying out renovation works on vacant or derelict properties.

As per government regulations, local authorities such as Clare County Council can only pay the grant to successful applicants after the works are finished and have been inspected.

Ireland South Fianna Fáil MEP and European Election candidate Billy Kelleher says tweaks are needed to make the scheme more attractive.
