Great Success For Clare Athletes At National Athletics Finals

St Francis Credit Union Clare Community had a very busy week with U12 and U15 girls Soccer and the U11 Hurling all completed and teams qualified for the Munster competitions.

They had 92 children who participated with great distinction in the National Athletic Track and Field Finals.

St Francis Credit Union Clare Community Games had 92 children representing them in The Community Games National Athletic finals on Saturday the 13th August in Carlow SETU Campus in extreme warm conditions. The standard of competition was extremely high. All Clare participants did extremely well, coming first in four events 2 individual and 2 relays, second in seven six individual and one relay, third in six, five individual and one relay and five individuals in fourth place. A total of thirty eight medals were brought back to Clare, the majority of the medals went to Ennis St Johns area with the on track commentators mentioning them on numerous occasions during the day.

Promise Jolaoshu, Sylvester Onwudiwe, Ailbhe O’Neill and Juliana Gea received medals in both individual and relay. A number of the Clare children qualified for their finals but were unlucky to be outside the medals. A brilliant display of talent and sportsmanship displayed by all.

HURLING
The St Francis Credit Union Clare Community Games U11 Hurling competition was held in glorious sunshine in O’Garney Park, Sixmilebridge on Sunday morning. It was coordinated by Kevin Phelan with four referees Kieran Liddane, Andew Mc Mahon and Fergal O’Brien. The standard was extremely high with some beautiful displays of skills and techniques on display.
In the quarter finals Sixmilebridge/Kilmurry and Doora Barefield was very close all the way with the local side edgeing ahead in the end while Newmarket on Fergus was the much stronger side with Cratloe. Quin/Clooney overcame Inch/Kilmaley/Connolly while Moylusa had a bye. In the semi finals Newmarket met Moylusa the game was very close to the end with Newmarket on Fergus experience showing in the end. The Newmarket on Fergus and Sixmilebridge Kilmurry was a very hard fought battle with Newmarket on Fergus coming out with a well deserved win, They now go forward to contest the Munster competition on Sat 10th September. Many thanks to Sixmilebridge GAA for such ideal facilities and to all who helped to make this competition the success it was.
