It’s hoped the announcement of €8.4 million of Government supports for Shannon Airport will help to secure its long term future.

Operational and capital costs will be covered by the support, as well as security systems and runway maintenance.

The funding forms part of an overall 80 million euro package, some of which was already announced in last month’s Budget.

From January to March of next year, all airports will also benefit from an Airport Charges Rebate Scheme which will be worth a total of 20 million euro.

Clare Fianna Fail Senator Timmy Dooley says it’s hoped the additional support will help to protect Shannon’s key routes.
