On Monday’s Morning Focus, Alan spoke to Gerard Lovett, the author of ‘Ireland’s Special Branch’. Gerard discussed as to what motivated him to write the book. He is both an author and a retired member of An Garda Síochána. The new book sheds a light on the often brutal and violent struggle for supermacy between the Garda Special Branch and the Anti Treaty IRA. It also gives an inside account of the inner workings of a squad of detectives called the Criminal Investigation Department, and their transition into what became known as the Special Branch.
