The ESB says it will not be taking delivery of Russian coal to Moneypoint ‘for the foreseeable future’.
It’s understood members of staff at the West Clare facility have expressed concerns to management about the utility continuing to trade with Russia in recent days on account of the ongoing conflict with Ukraine.
The plant is believed to have several months of coal supplies left in stock, with around half of that having previously been imported from Russia before the current conflict began.
The ESB has told Clare FM it is continuing to monitor the situation on an ongoing basis.
Speaking with Clare FM’s Josh Prenderville, Chair of the West Clare Municipal District and Fianna Fail Councillor Cillian Murphy says it’d be ‘unconscionable’ to continue to take in Russian coal at Moneypoint.
