The Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform has confirmed that plans are on track to begin construction on the long awaited Ennis South Flood Relief Scheme in Spring next year.

The €8.6 million project was hit with a fresh delay last July, after contractual issues were identified by the firm originally appointed to construct it, and the tender for the project had to be re-advertised.

Responding to a question from Clare Fine Gael TD, Joe Carey, Minister Paschal Donohue has confirmed that the Ennis South Flood Relief Scheme is being progressed by Clare County Council.

The tender competition, which began last year had to be relaunched, after issues surrounding the costs submitted by the firm appointed to construct it couldn’t be resolved.

The tender was then re-advertised, with 10 bids received by the September 28th deadline.

Minister Donohoe has confirmed that all of the applicants have passed the quality assessment stage of the process and Clare County Council and its consultants are now engaged in the assessment of the pricing element of the submissions.

The OPW previously confirmed that funding would be made available and have authorised the local authority to move ahead with land purchase arrangements, relating to the scheme.

It is hoped the contract will be signed before the end of this year, with construction commencing in spring 2019. When completed, the scheme will provide protection for 74 residential and 10 non-residential properties.
