Ennis Haulier Says Derogation For Drivers May Be Needed Again In The Future

The Ennis-based President of the Irish Road Haulage Association says a derogation allowing drivers to work longer hours may be needed again in the future.

The increase signed off on by the Department of Transport means hauliers can now work 112 hours every fortnight compared to 90 previously.

It’s due to remain in place until the end of the month and will be kept under weekly review.

Despite concerns from some opposition TD’s that it may make the roads more dangerous, Eugene Drennan of Spa Transport on the Lahinch Road says the move is a necessity.
