An Ennis GP is warning parents of a spike in respiratory illnesses in young children this winter.
New data from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre has shown Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is the most common cause of hospital admissions relating to severe respiratory illness in young children in this country.
The virus affects the airways, causing a fever, runny nose, coughing and wheezing and has been known to mostly affect infant children and elderly people.
