Ending Eviction Ban Will Result In Children Becoming Homeless Warns Clare Sinn Féin Cllr

Clare’s Sinn Féin Councillor is warning there’s children in this county that are about to be made homeless.

Donna McGettigan’s comments come ahead of a Sinn Féin motion calling for the eviction ban to be extended, which will be debated in the Dáil this evening and voted on by TDs tomorrow.

The Government is facing mounting pressure over its decision to end the ban.

A Sinn Féin motion calling for the Government decision to end the eviction ban to be reversed will be voted on tomorrow, but many TDs, including some in Government, have yet to decide what side to take.

A Clare representative says TD’s should bear in mind the widespread concern among renters in this county who are already facing eviction or are living in fear of what may be coming down the line.

Sinn Féin Councillor Donna McGettigan says people in both social housing and private rental are in complete despair and that children will be made homeless as a result of an end to the eviction ban.

The Shannon-based Councillor says solutions to the housing crisis are urgently needed.

There’s been disagreement among Government TDs as to how to respond to Sinn Fein’s motion, with a counter motion being finalised today.

The Regional Group of seven Independent TDs says it will decide how to vote depending on how the Government responds to eight new demands its put forward.

One member, Galway East TD Seán Canney, says the government will have their support in the crucial vote motion tomorrow – depending on how it responds to their demands.

Green Party TD Neasa Hourigan among those to declare she will vote against the Government.

Her party colleague, Inagh based Senator Roisín Garvey, says everyone needs to stay focused on the matter at hand.
