East Clare Councillor Adds Voice To Call For Greater Use Of Ennis Hospital

An East Clare Independent councillor says it doesn’t make sense that people in rural parts of Clare have to go to UHL for the majority of medical procedures.

Since the beginning of this year, the overcrowding record at University Hospital Limerick has been shattered three times which has prompted voices to renew calls for Ennis, Nenagh and St. John’s hospitals to have their emergency departments reopened.

The Dooradoyle facility is once again the most overcrowded facility in the country today with 102 patients waiting for a bed during morning rounds.

Clonlara Independent Councillor Michael Begley, who was in UHL for eye surgery several days ago, believes the role of the three Midwest Model 2 hospitals must be explored.
