Doolin-Based Mum Furthers Calls For Vaccine Priority For Family Carers

A North Clare-based mother of a child who has autism and mild cerebral palsy is furthering the call for family carers to be prioritised for the COVID-19 vaccine.

Nicole Pennekamp, who’s originally from Germany but has been living in Doolin for 16 years, would be deemed a priority in her native country.

Nearly all of her family in Germany have been vaccinated, including some who have received the jab because they are caring for others.

Here, the government says moving hundreds of thousands of family carers up the list would be too difficult logistically, but Nicole is frustrated, and says many carers feel ignored by the State.
