A Clare native expert in infectious diseases says we’ve reached the stage where the Covid virus is no more of a concern than flu.
It comes as the HSE has announced another important step in the ‘Living With Covid’ plan, with testing centres, as well as the online portal for appointments closing down on Thursday.
The HSE says the advice around Covid-19 has changed and testing is no longer recommended for the vast majority of people.
Sixmilebridge native Professor James McInerney, who’s the former Head of Life Sciences at the University Of Nottingham says the availability of free rapid antigen tests would help reduce the spread of the virus.
The WHO is to declare the Covid pandemic over at some point this year and Professor McInerney says the management of the spread of the virus into the future will be by normal public health measures.
