Eire Óg’s senior football championship winning captain admits it is a huge honour to have lifted the Jack Daly for the club.

Gavin Cooney became the first Townie since Alan Malone in 2006 to raise the famous trophy aloft after a battling victory over Kilmurry Ibrickane.

The county star played a captain’s part in the victory, accounting for 0-5 his sides tally on the day.

Cooney says it was a special moment to lead the team for such a historic day.

Meanwhile one of the stalwarts of the Eire Óg club feels they were deserving champions after a tough campaign.

County man Ciaran Russell was a central figure in their run to the title, forming part of a backline who didn’t concede a goal throughout their championship run.

He says it was a fitting reward for the effort they put in all year.
