Clare County Council says it has received no complaints on the issue.

People across Clare are being reminded that they must exercise and travel outdoors strictly within their five kilometre limit under current COVID-19 restrictions.

Clare County Council says it hasn’t received any complaints about gatherings at coastal locations and that anyone accessing public areas for exercise must do so safely in line with government guidelines.

But concerns were raised on social media that coastal areas such as Kilkee and Lahinch and walking trails in the east of the county had increased numbers in recent days.

Kilkee Fianna Fáil Councillor Cillian Murphy says people in the town have been concerned.

In contrast, a Lahinch hotelier has said that while the beach was busy there, he didn’t think it was cause for any major concern in recent days.

Micheal Vaughan believes as long as people are social distancing, there shouldn’t be an issue.

In the East of the County, the number of people walking the trails on the 12 o’clock Hills is said to be continuously increasing.

Patsy Neville of the Organising Committee believes people are travelling to there from outside the 5 kilometre limit and he’s asking them not to, saying there simply isn’t enough parking facilities.
