Concern Over High Volume Of Children Presenting For Emergency Care At Region’s Main Hospital

A Consultant Paediatrician at the region’s main hospital has expressed concern over the high volume of children presenting at the Emergency Department.

From September to November this year, paediatric ED attendances at University Hospital Limerick have increased by 55% on the same period last year, while Paediatric admissions are up 49%.

The UL Hospitals Group expects to see more children with viral infections this year compared to last, as repeated lockdowns resulted in reduced contact between children.
