Residents of a south-east Clare village have complained that internet and mobile signal are not reaching their homes due to the significant height of trees overlooking their estate.

Clonlara’s Glór na Srutha social housing estate, which came on stream in 2015, is situated beside a cluster of tall evergreen trees which were planted to shield the former wastewater treatment plant on the site.

Shannon Municipal District has conceded that the trees are “no longer required” as the plant is gone and “assessment will be arranged with maintenance works based on the outcome”.

Independent Clonlara Councillor Michael Begley has called for the height of the trees to be reduced to a “reasonable height” so residents can receive reception as well as light.
