A proposal to make Ennis a ‘Centre of Wellness’ has been suggested as an alternative to the controversial Abbey Street Development.

It comes just one month after the Ennis 2040 DAC held public consultations on plans for a mixed use office and anchor-tenant led retail complex on the existing car-park site.

Ennis’ vacancy rate has come into sharp focus since and to date the local authority is taking action on 31 derelict sites.

Clarecastle Fine Gael Councillor Paul Murphy says while he has grave concerns over the Abbey Street plans, the primary focus should be repurposing unoccupied units as town centre housing.
