Clare’s Fianna Fáil TD claims it’s a shocking indictment on the government that older people in Ireland are unable to get hospital beds without long waits.

Timmy Dooley is among a number of the party’s senior TDs who have ruled out the possibility of extending their confidence and supply agreement in the Fine Gael-led minority government after the next budget, unless there’s significant improvements in areas of concern.

They’re uirging the Taoiseach to get to grips with issues such as the crisis within the health system and the housing and homeless crisis.

Deputy Dooley says the housing shortage alone shows the extent of the current state of affairs.

But Clare’s Fine Gael Senator is defending his party, saying it’s only now that legacy issues can be dealt with following years of austerity.

Martin Conway has pointed to the highest ever spend in health, and progress that he feels is being made with regards to housing.

Senator Conway claims that what’s needed now is a collaborative approach from both Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil to eliminate the main issues that have grappled the country.
