Using CSO Census Data, and the latest figures from the Department of Health, a Clare FM analysis of the statistics shows that the 209 confirmed cases of COVID-19 here equate to one diagnosis for every 176 people living in the county.

This is higher than only five other counties – Carlow, Sligo, Galway, Waterford and Wexford, which has the lowest rate of confirmed COVID-19 cases of anywhere in the country.

On the other end of the scale, the 574 cases in Cavan mean that it has a higher rate of infections than in Dublin, despite its 9,224 cases.

Monaghan, Westmeath and Louth round off the top five.

Limerick, in fifteenth nationally, has the highest rate of COVID-19 diagnoses in Munster.
