Clare Pharmacists Claims Patients Will Suffer Most Without Sustainable Sectoral Investment

The Clare branch of the Irish Pharmacies Union claims that sustainable investment in the sector would significantly reduce pressure on GPs and Emergency Departments.

The IPUs pre-budget submission is calling for the introduction of a minor ailments scheme that would enable pharmacists to dispense medication for a defined list of conditions directly to medical card patients.

Although a Government task force is currently examining the expansion of pharmacy services, a recent survey from the IPU found that 1 in 10 members are currently operating at a loss.
