Clare motorists are being warned to drive with extreme care, as wintry conditions lead to hazardous conditions on the roads.
Temperatures dropped below freezing overnight and there’s heavy snowfall in many parts of the county this morning, leading to poor visibility.
The N68 Ennis to Kilrush Road is said to be particularly bad; two busses and a truck have left the road this morning. There are no reports of injuries.
Gardaí say road conditions are also bad on all side roads in West Clare and on the M18 motorway and are asking motorists to focus on the road and not on vehicles in the verges.
A status yellow snow-ice warning remains in effect until 11 o’clock tonight, while a second yellow low temperature-ice warning comes into effect at 9pm and will last until 10am on Friday morning.
Around 700 kilometres of Clare’s road network has been treated overnight, but drivers being warned to still take care on both salted and unsalted routes.
Senior Engineer with Clare County Council’s Roads & Transportation department, John Leahy, says they will be monitoring the situation over the coming days.

Meanwhile, a number of bus services have been affected by the adverse weather conditions.
Bus Éireann says routes 314 and 323 Services are operating with delays due to weather conditions.

The 335 and C1 services are not running, but this will be reviewed at noon, while the C23 Ballyvaughan to Ennis service is running.
