Clare Gardaí Warning Motorists Driving Non-EU Cars At Greater Risk Of Theft

Clare Gardaí are warning that motorists driving cars imported from outside the EU are at a greater risk of thefts and break-ins.

It comes as the Brú na Sionna area of Shannon has once again been the site of car-related crime as a resident has claimed to have been the victim of a number of attempts to steal their car, resulting in damage to the vehicle.

The Garda National Crime Prevention Unit has previously blamed the lack of security measures such as immobilisers and alarms in non-EU imports for the 54% increase in car thefts seen nationwide last year.

Clare Crime Prevention Officer Catriona Holohan believes many motorists aren’t aware these important devices which are standard in cars made in the European Union don’t come in non-EU alternatives.
