A Clare GAA club has called for treasurer of Clare GAA Michael Gallagher to be removed from his position.

It comes after volunteers who were selling tickets for Clare footballs fundraising Win a Car draw were forced to stop selling to patrons outside Cusack Park today.

The draw, which boasts a new Toyota Rav-4 as the top prize, is aimed at raising funds for all Clare football squads from U14 to senior.

It’s understood Mr Gallagher told ticket sellers today that he would withdraw the services of the gatecheckers for the Clare IFC final if the selling of the tickets did not stop.

Secretary of Clare GAA Pat Fitzgerald along with chairman Jack Chaplin had granted permission to the football supporters group to sell tickets on the day, while the Win a House in Lahinch committee had also liaised with the group and were supportive of the endeavour.

In the aftermath of the incident, Kilmihil GAA club, the home club of Clare football boss Colm Collins, posted on their Twitter account.

Kilmihil clubman and Clare selector Declan Downes also expressed his disappointment with the development.

It’s not yet known if sellers will be permitted to set up outside the county grounds for tomorrow’s Clare SFC final.

Clare FM has sought comment from Clare GAA on the matter.
