There have now been no new cases of COVID-19 in Clare – for a week.
Figures released yesterday evening show – that the total number of cases here remains at 368.
It’s the first time that Clare has gone COVID-free for seven days – since the beginning of the outbreak.
Meanwhile – the numbers of people wearing face masks in public will be discussed by the country’s top public health officials this morning.
The National Public Health Emergency Team is meeting to discuss the country’s ongoing response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Covid-19 death toll has risen to 1,695, after a further 5 people with the virus died.
There have now been 25,231 confirmed cases, although around 92 per cent of those have fully recovered.
This morning the National Public Health emergency team meets to examine how we are dealing with Covid-19 as a nation.
They’ll review updated World Health Organisation guidance on face coverings, and consider the growing calls for masks to be used more in community settings.
It’s after The Director of the National Virus Reference Lab, who advises NPHET, told the Dáil’s special Covid-19 committee that the evidence around the use of cloth masks is “not fantastic”.
