Clare Beef Plan Chair Reps Claims ‘Herd Annihilation’ Will Decimate Farm Income

The Clare Beef Plan Chair says ‘annihilating herds’ is not a sustainable approach to reducing farm emissions.

An Department of Agriculture briefing document obtained by the Farming Independent has detailed government proposals to cull 65,000 cattle a year for the next three years in a bid to meet climate targets.

Farmers who chose to opt in to the voluntary dairy reduction scheme would receive a €3,000 per cow compensation payment.
