An Department of Agriculture briefing document obtained by the Farming Independent has detailed government proposals to cull 65,000 cattle a year for the next three years in a bid to meet climate targets.
Farmers who chose to opt in to the voluntary dairy reduction scheme would receive a €3,000 per cow compensation payment.
