A West Clare councillor has claimed local residents are being ‘weeded out’ of the area.
Lissycasey representative PJ Kelly has hit out at planning policies, saying it’s too difficult for people to get permission to build homes in some rural parts of the county.
He says this is driving depopulation, and resulting in threats to the future of shops and schools, and even full communities.

While he’s hopeful the trend can be turned around, Cllr Kelly says evidence of this decline can already be seen throughout rural West Clare.
