Celebrations In Full Swing On East Clare Border After €30 Million Euromillions Win

The owner of the East Clare border shop that sold Friday’s winning Euromillions ticket says the scale of the event is just starting to sink in.

The ticket, which is now worth more than 30 million euro, was purchased at Larkin’s Gala Service Station, Garryurtneal, which is on the Clare, Tipperary, Limerick border.

The sound of the champagne corks popping began from early this morning at Larkin’s shop as the news that they were the outlet that sold the golden ticket began to emerge.

It’s believed the lucky man, woman or syndicate purchased the ticket last Sunday.

The winning numbers were 13, 18, 38, 42 and 45 – and the lucky stars were 7 and 11.

Larkin’s had previously sold a winning Lotto ticket worth €500,000 around 15 years ago.

Siobhan Larkin, who’s owned and ran the shop for 21 years with her husband Michael, says this win eclipses that occasion.

Locals were out in force this morning throwing their support behind the local store.

Siobhan’s cousin Frances, who crossed the bridge from Ogonnelloe to congratulate her relative today, says the store’s moment in the sun is richly deserved.

Speculation is already rife around the shop and its community about who it could be.

It’s not yet known if the winner or winners is or are local, but given the shop’s location on the Clare, Limerick or Tipperary border, the winner could well be from any of the three Midwest counties.

These Killaloe residents say not everyone in the community is yet aware of the huge news.

Meanwhile, the National Lottery say the lucky winner has yet to make contact with its HQ.

The body is urging everybody who may have purchased a ticket in Larkin’s Gala to check them, and if they happen to have the winning one, to take a deep breath – and most importantly, sign the back of it.

Fran Whearty from the National Lottery says they’re ready and available to take that phone call whenever the winner is ready.

For now though, the celebrations in Larkin’s Gala are set to continue well into the next few days.
