Clare County Council has heard calls for a temporary suspension of asylum seekers arriving into Clare until services are sufficiently enhanced.

Clare is currently hosting the sixth highest total of refugees and International Protection Applicants nationwide, with 4,511 displaced Ukranians now being accommodated in this county.

A motion put forward at this month’s meeting of the local authority last evening follows the state receiving a fine of €1.5 million from the EU for failing to find accommodation for 350 Migrants.
