Calls For New Bye-Laws Amid Health And Safety Concerns At Clare Burial Sites

Concern has been raised over health and safety risks at Clare burial sites due to what’s been described as outdated legislation.

The laws that currently regulate Irish burials were introduced in 1888 and only received minor amendments relating to coffin type and depth in 1929 and 2013.

Communities across the county have struggled with capacity issues of late, with efforts made to source new graveyard space in Clonlara, Crusheen and Drumcliffe in Ennis in the last two years.
