Call For Clare To Remain Open With €4 Million Road Works Planned

It’s claimed it’s vital that West Clare remains open once major works begin to improve the network of national roads.

This year has seen the National Roads Allocation almost double to just over €4 million.

Of this, more than €2.5 million will be spent on the N67 along the West Clare coast, as Clare FM’s James Mulhall reports:

Transport Infrastructure Ireland has designated just over 4 million euro to the Banner County for work on national roads and their footpaths in 2019.

That’s a 95% increase on the funding awarded last year, with the money to be spent on a variety of projects.

Around €2.5 million will go on the N67, which stretches from Killimer, along the west coast as far as Galway.

It comes ahead of what’s set to be a busier than normal tourist season, with the Irish Open coming to Lahinch and Cathaoirleach of the West Clare Municipal District Ian Lynch says it’s vital the county remains open during works.

This round of funding is focused just on the major routes, with smaller roads to receive their own funding allocation shortly.

Bodyke Fine Gael Councillor Joe Cooney is the Chair of Clare County Council’s Physical Development SPC, which deals with roads.

He is expecting a positive announcement in the coming weeks on the Local Improvement Scheme, which allows for works on some of the county’s smallest roads.
