Big Names Drop Out Of Race For TUS Clare SFC Honours As Group Stages Conclude

All bar one of the places in the knockout stages of the TUS Clare senior football championship are now filled.

The last remaining place will be decided next weekend when the last two teams in contention meet in a playoff tie.

Group One of this years TUS Clare senior football championship was decided without any major complications, as Kilmurry Ibrickane’s win over Doora Barefield saw them finish in top spot.

There was some drama in Group Two, where Miltown had to hold off a late surge from Clondegad before getting over the line in a two point win.

That was enough to see them into the last eight, and consign the Ballynacally men to a relegation battle.

That result for Miltown means that Doonbeg are also still alive in the championship, as the Magpies clinched third place in the table and one more opportunity to reach the last eight in next weekend’s playoff round.

Their opponents in that game will be Lissycasey, after they lost out to neighbours Kildysart.

It means the Estuary side finish top of the table, and will go the last eight with a seeded status.

The big casualty of this weekends action were Ennistymon, as last years runners up and current Cusack Cup champions are out of the race for Jack Daly.

They face a relegation battle after losing out to Cratloe, who had two Diarmuid Ryan goals to thanks for sealing their passage to the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile in the intermediate championship, Kilmihil, Wolfe Tones, Naomh Eoin, Coolmeen, Liscannor, Kilrush, The Banner and Cooraclare are the last eight standing.
