Almost €43K Worth Of Drugs Seized In Clare Under Operation Tara

Almost 43,000 euro worth of drugs have been seized by Gardaí in Clare under Operation Tara.

It follows seizures at properties in Newmarket on Fergus, Shannon and Killaloe in the past week.

In the first of a number of searches in the past week, detectives and uniformed Gardaí conducted a search under warrant at a house in the Newmarket-on-Fergus on Saturday, October 22nd.

During the course of this search, €3,700 worth of suspected Cocaine was seized, while a male in his late 20’s was arrested at the scene and subsequently detained at Shannon Garda Station.

He’s since been released from custody and a file is now being prepared for the DPP.

On Friday last, two houses in Shannon were searched.

€20,000 worth of suspected Amphetamine and €11,000 worth of suspected Cocaine were discovered in one of the houses, while €320 worth of suspected Cannabis Herb and €900 of suspected Cocaine were seized in the second house.

Two males in their late 20’s were arrested and detained Shannon Garda Station and later released, pending submission of an investigation file to the DPP.

The following day, detective and uniformed Gardaí carried out a search of a premises in Killaloe.

During the course of this search, approximately €8,000 worth of suspected Cocaine and €200 worth of suspected Heroin were seized.

A man in his mid-30’s was arrested and detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act and later released, with a file going to the DPP.

All of the suspected controlled substances seized have been forwarded to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.

These seizures form part of Operation Tara which is an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy. The focus of Operation Tara is to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks, at all levels – international, national, local – involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale and supply of controlled drugs.
