It’s in stark contrast to the situation in neighbouring Limerick, where there has been 770 cases, with more than 50 in North Tipperary.

Public Health Mid-West is currently investigating COVID-19 outbreaks in 50 workplaces in the region, involving 141 cases and an estimated 324 close contacts.

The vast majority are in retail, supermarkets, hair salons, beauticians, offices, and factories.

Health officials have acknowledged the preparation that’s gone into protecting customers and staff from COVID-19, while re-opening businesses.

But they say they’re seeing concerning trends of inconsistent and poor practices when it comes to adhering to Public Health guidelines among workplaces that have reopened over the past four weeks.

This includes people who are confirmed close contacts attending work, when they should be restricting their movements for at least 10 days, pending a negative PCR test result.
