23.5 Million In Funding For Clare Roads

Over 23.5 million euro worth of funding has been granted for the upgrading of regional and local roads in Clare.

It’s part of a 417 million euro Government fund aimed at resurfacing and strengthening thousands of kilometres of road across the country.

Here in Clare, 6.5 million will be spent on the Shannon Crossing Project at Killaloe, but even when this is excluded, the county’s allocation is still up by 18% on last year.

Other projects to receive a portion of the fund include the controversial Limerick Northern Distributor Road, Latoon Bridge and the bridge at O’Brien’s bridge.

Senior Engineer with Clare County Council Tom Tiernan says the increase in funding is badly needed.
