Hannah Arnup
Ballymorris Pottery was established by Hannah Arnup in 1994 after she and her husband John acquired a 17th century farm in rural Co. Clare.
It took several years to persuade the owner to sell the property to Hannah and John which included a cottage and farm which were very run down, however the couple took on what was a major undertaking to refurbish the site.
Hannah established a pottery initially and later a pottery school and the business continued to expand over the years to include a new workshop and a retail outlet, both located in a renovated hay barn.
She studied sculpture and ceramics in England, but much of her experience came from her parents, Sally Arnup ARCA, a renowned animal sculptor, and Mick Arnup, a painter and potter, both based at Holtby in rural North Yorkshire, England.
Hannah worked with them, gaining experience with an unusual blend of craft, art, and business. Their encouragement and influence giving her the knowledge and confidence to establish Ballymorris Pottery when she moved to Ireland in 1990.
She also owns and runs the Arnup Studios at Holtby near York in England.
