The Today Show – Tuesday May 1st

Rose Tully of the National Parents Council – Post Primary, spoke to Gavin Grace about the news that a principal of a state-run school in Munster has been criticised by the Children’s Ombudsman, for refusing a girl a place in his school. The principal turned the young person away twice – once when she was pregnant, and again after she became a mother. The man said he had a duty to protect the ”honourable majority of his pupils”. Ombudsman Emily Logan has accused him of being ”hostile” and ”defiant” during the course of her office’s investigation. Rose Tully agrees with the Ombudsman that the treatment of the girl was unjust. She says a Catholic ethos in a school is fine but this should not include judgment.

Paddy and Kitty McGough from Inagh were also featured in today’s edition of The Today Show. Clare FM’s Máire Moynahan paid a visit to Co. Clare’s longest married couple last evening.  Maire spoke with Paddy, aged 97 and Kitty, aged 95, following their Diamond Wedding Anniversary last Saturday April 28th.  The couple, who have lived all their lives in Inagh, shared the same Confirmation Day and following their marriage, raised 8 children. Paddy and Kitty (nee Keane) spoke about how they met and what they’ve experienced over their 75 years of marriage. She also found the answer to the most important question – what’s the secret of a long and happy marriage!
