On today’s edition of the show Gavin Grace spoke with John Flannery, General Manager of AIDS West, following the launch of a new sexual health app. The Health Minister James Reilly launched Ireland’s first ever iphone app on sexual health on Friday. The “Sexual Health Guide” addresses all aspects of sexual health providing useful information on the importance of positive sexual experiences, frequently asked questions, information on STI’S and contraception plus where to go for help when required. As Cheltenham gets underway Shane Cauldwell of O’Mara Bookmakers joined the show to give us some tips and advice on who to back in the annual racing festival – a highlight of the year’s racing calendar. Everyday this week as part of our Cheltenham coverage we will place a €20 charity bet, courtesy of O’Mara’s Bookmakers – the winnings will be donated to the Clare 250 Mile Cycle and Cancer Centre charity

Gearoid Mannion of Tom Mannion Travel Worldchoice joined the show for his weekly travel feature and advised on new and existing destinations from Shannon Airport including new routes to the Bodrum peninsula in Turkey, the Austrian cities of Linz and Graz and Rennes in France.

Brian Harte of Tourism Ireland spoke to Gavin about the “Jump into Ireland” campaign to promote Ireland as a holiday destination. Discover Ireland is asking people all over the world to share their best ever Irish holiday moments and clips.  It could be even be some great footage you haven’t yet filmed. Whatever it is, Discover Ireland wants to see it and as a reward the winning clip will go global. They’ll turn you into the next YouTube sensation by using your clip as part of a worldwide online campaign to promote Ireland as a holiday destination.  Not only that, the winner will also receive an amazing holiday in Ireland worth €1,500.

Cuimhneamh an Chláir, the Clare Oral History and Folklore Group, as part of its attempt to raise awareness and interest in Clare’s folklore and oral history have collaborated with Clare FM in a unique poetry project.  The project, which received funding from Oifig Gaeilge an Chláir, involved Cuimhneamh an Chláir working with pupils from 6th class in Gaelscoil Mhichíl Cíósóg.  The pupils were asked to compose poems on characters of their choosing relating to Clare folklore and history. Today’s poem was penned by Eoin O Ceallaigh and is a tribute to Mairéad Ní Ghrada, a Poet, Playwright and Broadcaster from Kilmaley.  She was a life long advocate of the Irish language and in the poem Eoin Ó Ceallaigh outlines her life story.
 

Gavin also spoke with Johnny Igoe, Chairman of the West Clare Drama Festival in Doonbeg for a roundup of the winners of the competitions that took place.  Doonbeg’s “The Weir” won 1st place in the confined section while in the open competition Corofin’s “The Subject was Roses” claimed 1st prize.

Patrick Horan, a student from Clonlara has won the prestigious Doodle 4 Google competition.  The sixth year student at St. Munchin’s College in Limerick spoke to Gavin about his participation in the competition and what the win means to him. You’ll be able to view Patrick’s winning drawing on the Google homepage on Friday.
