The Today Show – Monday May 21st

It seems more people are considering cremation as an alternative to traditional burial, and wishing for their cremated remains to be scattered in a location that holds a special meaning for them and those they love.  On The Today Show Gavin Grace spoke with a Clare man who’s come up with a unique service for those, especially those in the Irish diaspora, who want their remains scattered in “the old country”. Your Final Journey is a service set up by Bunratty man Kevin Walker, a dedicated service to those over seas who wish to send and scatter their loved one’s remains in Ireland.

Matthew Bermingham and John McMahon from Querrin, both in their 90’s, featured on The Today Show this afternoon as over the weekend Querrin witnessed the launch of the SV Sally O’Keeffe. She is a 25 foot gaff-rigged wooden sailing vessel inspired by the traditional sailing turf boats that were common on the river Shannon in centuries gone by and was launched on Saturday from Querrin Pier. Matthew was given the honour of launching the new boat and Clare FM’s Stephen McDermott was on hand to talk to both Matthew and John about their memories of times gone by and of life on the boats. Clare FM’s John Ryan, presenter of The Home Run, joined Gavin in studio to discuss the late Robin Gibb. Bee Gees star Robin died at the age of 62, after a long battle with cancer. With their falsetto vocals, the Bee Gees were responsible for dance floor classics like Stayin’ Alive, Night Fever, and How Deep is Your Love. Celebrities have been tweeting their condolences after the death of Bee Gees singer Robin Gibb. Bryan Adams said that it’s ‘another great singer dying too young’ while Mick Hucknall has referred to him as a ‘Musical Giant’.

Paul “Calso” Callaghan, our resident Chef and Food Blogger discussed barbecues – the do’s and don’ts. As fine weather is on the cards for this week Paul explained how barbecuing is actually one of the healthiest ways to cook.  He also reminded all the men out there that barbecues are not just about meat – you also need salads etc to accompany it! He warned against undercooking meat – if in doubt cut into the meat to make sure it is cooked thoroughly. For more details see Paul’s blog – http://thesustainablelarder.blogspot.com/
