The Today Show – Monday June 11th

On today’s edition of The Today Show, Lorcan Brennan of the Men’s Development Network joined Clare FM’s Gavin Grace to discuss men’s awareness of their health. Men in Ireland are often accused of being forgetful; especially when it comes to remembering significant dates such as birthdays and anniversaries.  However, while this might sometimes be true, there’s a date that all men need to know about – as it could help to save their life!  This date is Monday 11th – Sunday 17th June 2012, also known as International Men’s Health Week. Men’s Health Week provides an annual opportunity for everyone to do their bit to improve the health of local men.  Each year, there is a focus upon a specific theme.  The theme for 2012 in Ireland is: "Men’s Health – What’s Your First Instinct … Fight? Flight? Find Out?"   The Men’s Health Forum in Ireland (MHFI) is encouraging men to develop a ‘first instinct’ which is to actively seek help, advice, support, and to act quickly in times of difficulty, crisis or ill health rather than ignoring symptoms, turning to alcohol, ‘soldiering on’ or taking their own life. See www.mhfi.org/mens-health-week-2012.html for more details.

Brendan O’Brien of the Irish Examiner spoke to Gavin from Poland where he is travelling with the Irish Squad. The Republic of Ireland will have to get positive results against two of the world’s best teams if they’re to progress from their Euro 2012 group. They were beaten 3-1 by Croatia in their opening match. Next up are reigning champions Spain on Thursday 14th June – followed by Italy on Monday June 18th. Brendan discussed the continuing campaign.

Andrea Varga is a Parenting Coach based in Ennis.  She spoke to Gavin following recent news that British PM David Cameron left his eight-year-old daughter in the pub following a Sunday lunch. Apparently his daughter was left behind after a mix-up with his wife Samantha. The couple’s daughter Nancy wandered off to the toilets while they were arranging lifts and they only realised she was not with them when they got home. A Downing Street spokesman said: “The prime minister and Samantha were distraught when they realised Nancy wasn’t with them. Andrea and Gavin talked about how common it actually is for parents!
