The Today Show – Friday March 9th

On today’s edition of The Today Show Gavin discussed the incidents of violent crime across the country in recent days. Clare FM’s Máire Moynahan spoke with members of the public about their fears and concerns in relation to the crime rate and the types of crime that affect people in Clare.

Tom Boland, CEO of the Higher Education Authority of Ireland spoke to Gavin about today’s news that Leaving Cert students are switching to science, farming and the food industry in their college choices. Former popular choices like architecture and construction have fallen down the rankings as students keep an eye on the jobs market when filling out their CAO form. In the last 5 years demand for science courses has increased by 60 per cent. While, the numbers picking construction related courses has decreased by 70 per cent.

Molly Muldoon, Deputy Editor of Irish Central in New York joined The Today Show for her
weekly feature of news from across the Atlantic – especially the stories that affect the Irish Community in the US and those that impact us here at home. This week Molly discussed the gaffe made by President Obama who confused a four leaf clover with a shamrock amongst other stories from Irish Central.

Michael Davis is PRO with Ennis Tri Club he joined Gavin in studio to give details on this weekend’s Duathlon. Over 150 junior and senior athletes are expected to participate in the second annual Ennis Duathlon series, which will be held over the coming weeks at Lees Road Sports Amenity Park in Ennis. Hosted by Ennis Tri Club, in conjunction with Triathlon Ireland, the first of the two Duathlons will take place this Sunday from 10:30am.

Martin Gleeson, Director with Kilkee’s Amphitheatre Company spoke to The Today Show ahead of their performance of “Agnes of God” by John Pielmeier.  They’re competing in the confined section at the 51st annual West Clare Drama Festival in Doonbeg.
