The Today Show – Friday April 20th

On The Today Show, Clare FM’s Máire Moynahan spoke with Stuart Duffin, Welfare to Work Manager with One Family. One Family, is Ireland’s leading organisation for one-parent families, and has announced its ‘One Family-Ten Solutions’ campaign, which provides ten cost neutral strategies to assist lone parents back into work or education. This follows Minister for Social Protection, Joan Burton’s, statement that she won’t stop lone parent payments when the youngest child is seven unless she receives a commitment in the next Budget on affordable childcare.

David Egan from Sixmilebridge and Founder “Parents for Health”, a charitable initiative that helps parents to promote health, spoke to The Today Show regarding news that a leading consultant has branded hospital food bad for your health. David is an exercise scientist with particular expertise in helping people make positive changes to their lifestyle. David’s wife was served awful food in maternity hospital a few years ago and David discussed our eating habits and what needs to be done to curb obesity and unhealthy eating. Molly Muldoon, Deputy Editor of Irish Central joined us for our weekly feature on news from the United States.  Molly spoke about Natasha McShane, the Armagh student who was assualted in Chicago 2 years ago, the inspirational story of Joanne O’Riordan from North Cork who will address the UN on Monday and the 100th birthday of a Clare native – Joe Cunningham in the Bronx, New York.

James Whelton, Co-Founder of Coder Dojo – an Irish led, global network of computer clubs where young people can learn to code, develop websites, apps and games, spoke to Máire about how the programme takes children out of their bedrooms and ignites their intelligence. The club-class atmosphere encourages them to share their knowledge, doubts and ideas, and makes them eager to attend further sessions. Like-minded children interact with each other, and this is especially beneficial for the children who often feel left out as they are more interested in technology than sports or music. See coderdojo.com for more details or if you are interested in setting up a club in your area.

Clare FM’s Kevin McGillicuddy was in studio for a look ahead to tonight’s Sideline View Preview. Kevin discussed Clare’s chances against Kilkenny on Sunday and John Giles Walk of Dreams that returns to Clare in the Summer.

The launch of the sessions takes place in Cassidy’s Bar, Carron on this weekend – the 20th and 21st of April.
